Over on Facebook I had a discussion with a Mormon friend prompted by the movie release of Bivle VS Joseph Smith. I had a fairly lengthy exchange summarizing my thoughts, thankfully without getting into quotes and links.
I began, "I was absolutely clueless about Mormonism when I became friends with Jason Fudge 10 years ago. He challenged me to look into it so I did. Previous to this I'd read the Quran/Hadith and various Hindu and Buddhist texts. So I read the LDS books in their entirety along with various sermons from Smith and Young. Next I read historical eyewitness accounts from the LDS and also from the splinter groups, especially the RLDS/CofC. I also read of accounts made during that time period. I also discussed various things with Jason and his family. After all that I concluded that Joseph Smith was a very intelligent con man that realized that religion could be his ultimate tool. I also concluded that the LDS members I personally know are very good people and nothing at all like Joseph Smith. In fact, many at CCM could learn from the attitudes of the local LDS members."

This video is intended as a joke but I actually take it quite seriously. I still remember the time I was playing Battlefield 1942 in the desert map. It's my own server. Next thing I know the sky is raining aircraft carriers. Hilarious, right?

Well, this type of nonsense is only fun for so long. Problem is, many people have chosen to make this type of behavior the focus of their gameplaying. The game is to not play by the rules, the game is to annoy as many people as possible with your antics.

I used to play Paintball as part of a team called Capital Punishment. I was the sniper in the group using the Tippmann 98 Custom with the Flatline barrel.

The amazing thing about the Flatline was the range. I clearly remember the first time I was using it in a woods environment. Several guys were at their maximum range down a trail from me. In order to even get close to hitting me they had to tilt their guns at a 45 degree angle upwards and hope to hit me. I just moved back a couple feet, where the balls were hitting the ground before me, and took aim...straight at them! Headshot!

A couple weeks back I asked everyone to submit an essay that described how gaming could improve the world. LittleSettler of the Christiandev.com forum is the winner. Below you can find his entry:

For gaming to considerably improve the world, there needs to be more games out there that encourage men to be men. Gaming will improve the world when games encourage men to be warriors. Likewise, when games teach men to accept rebuke it will improve the world. And, also, it is good that they not be cold-blooded. This would certainly improve the world if in a game they learned that. As gaming shows men to be servants, so it will be to the aid and improvement of those who play it. Also, as gaming teaches men to be leaders, so it will make better people of them. Men are to be warriors who take joy in saving life...knights regardless of whether their armour is shiny.

My early review copy of Adam's Venture 2: Solomon's Secret provided by the publisher was unlocked today. I've completed the first section involving an escape from a airport outside of Jerusalem. So far I like what I've been seeing.

(This is almost exactly where I've left off)
Speaking of seeing, the graphics are definitely a highlight. The animations of the characters aren't as fluid as AAA titles but the world detail is aided by fullscreen bloom and depth of field effects. I'm not sure what the budget for this episode was but the attention to detail is noticeable.

I haven't bought an album in what seems like forever. The last I can remember is Becoming the Archetype's early release of Dichotomy. So I thought I'd list the albums that look interesting to me.
- We are the Fallen (Tear The World Down) - Freaked! A Gotee Tribute To dcTalk's Jesus Freak - Disciple (Horseshoes & Handgrenades) - Family Force 5 (Family Force 5 Christmas Pageant) (Dance Or Die With A Vengeance) - Group 1 Crew (Outta Space Love) - Red (Until We Have Faces) - Cellofourte (A String Tribute to Skillet) - Jonah33 - 12 Stones - Decyfer Down - Anberlin - The Showdown (Blood In The Gears) - Demon Hunter (World Is a Thorn) - Superchick (Reinvention) - The Letter Black (Hanging On By A Thread ) - Since October (Life, Scars, Apologies) - Day of Fire (Losing All) - Deitrick Haddon (Church on the Moon)
Any other suggestions?

Soma Games maintains a blog where they've been posting some thoughtful articles on worldviews in relation to entertainment. You know...one of my favorite topics. So check out the recent one about Tron: Legacy.
"This last weekend, some of the guys at Soma took a field trip to the theater to experience TRON: Legacy in its full IMAX 3D glory. (I have it on good authority that for true awesomeness and full rumble effect, rows 4-7 front and center is the sweet spot.) Mike and I, who are stationed up here at “Soma Games : High Altitude Command” in sunny Colorado, were pretty disappointed to miss this event with our fellow mouth-breathers and resolved to plan our own nerd-outing.

First, however, I had to come clean with the boss. I had never seen the first TRON. His response reassured me I wouldn’t be kicked to the virtual curb: “The original Tron was a bit like the first [name withheld for boss protection] movie – it kind of sucked. You’re not allowed to SAY that in geek company but it’s the truth we all know about. We still love you Ryan.” – (Chris: The movie in question is Star Trek. C’mon, you know I’m right.)
