I used to play Paintball as part of a team called Capital Punishment. I was the sniper in the group using the Tippmann 98 Custom with the Flatline barrel.
The amazing thing about the Flatline was the range. I clearly remember the first time I was using it in a woods environment. Several guys were at their maximum range down a trail from me. In order to even get close to hitting me they had to tilt their guns at a 45 degree angle upwards and hope to hit me. I just moved back a couple feet, where the balls were hitting the ground before me, and took aim...straight at them! Headshot!
The negative of course is that this was a big gun. Never mind having to heft it around everywhere...we played by the rule that if your marker got hit it counts as a hit on you. If I was using cover my big ol' barrel had a tendency to stick out. So I finished many days without a single splat mark on my body but my gun covered in goo.
I stopped playing Paintball (too many bills/work and not enough time/money!) about the time Airsoft began to get popular. In general the guys did not like to play with mixed guns. But the problem was I couldn't find enough people with Airsoft guns to make a decent game. So I never got into it.
Now my church is talking about setting up an Airsoft team and I'm stoked. I'm trying to figure out what gun I want. I have an immediate desire for this one...
The ECHO1 M134 Minigun is definitely out of my price range. Then if I want to be a sniper again there's the SOCOM M82 but that's also $850. Getting more reasonable price wise but not quite there. Most likely I'll end up going with a Steyr Aug replica upgraded to 400+ FPS and an assault scope (no optical enhancement, just an aiming red dot).
