Most people focus on the potential negative aspects of playing video games. In general video games are about entertainment, but I've always felt that video games, and other art forms, can enlighten. Some people may scoff at this so I offer today an email that Mack sent me about how our simple game Eternal War: Shadows of Light influenced at least one soul.

I've always kept my contact information open to people online to contact me. Despite the trolls and haters, I do get some meaningful messages.

I was chatting with a fellow tonight who told me that he lent his copy of Shadows of Light to a friend, his friend played through the game and returned it afterwards. Years later, his friend told him that during that time, he was suicidal. He swallowed a bunch of pills and was waiting for them to take effect, when the full gravity of the situation: him dying, people still love him, God still loves him, he still has a life, hit him, he forced himself to vomit up the pills and returned the game the next day saying he had completed it. Years later, as they were
talking about what was going on, the subject of the game came up and they both agreed that it played a role in helping him. His friend isn't a Christian, but the message of fighting your inner demons head on helped him to fight his suicide rather than let it overcome him.

So they wanted to say thanks and I'm passing it on. This this the second person I've been told you've helped save from killing themselves. Don't let the trolls try to take this from you.

Take heart, for you are a hero.

That's why I do what I do. I could probably work with a normal video game developer but I'm not that interested. From a personal financial perspective our vision of video games is probably the hardest path to take but it's worth every penny.
