Tomonobu Itagaki is a name that is probably one of the first to be synonymously known with video games. Along with Keiji Inafune, Suda 51, and even Yoshiki Okamoto and now adding to them the North American publishers of Jason West and Vince Zampella. However, with the exception of Suda 51, Itagaki stands out for his philosophy and his aggressive nature. He is also well-known and probably most popular for being the one who led Team Ninja in making two of the best game series around being the Dead or Alive Series and the Ninja Gaiden Series. When it comes to Itagaki’s philosophy on video games and such, it is an all-around balance on what he sees fit as a balance. This is best shown on the capabilities of what he sees fit to be capable of what he needs for his vision to be a reality.

On the philosophy of gaming, Itagaki is known to love uniqueness but a driving factor within his games.
He is well-known to be very frank when it comes to his mindset for game design and the industry thus his famous derogatory words towards Heavenly Sword and any game that utilizes the button prompt gameplay where he believes that type of gameplay takes away from the fulfillment of playing a game in the first place. Since his attitude is very consistent to being frank and to most the frank personality is usually aggressive and sometimes rude, Itagaki can come off like that and so it may be. He is a “to the point” kind of guy and doesn’t allow quibbles or sectionalists. He is also into the aspect of challenges thus he will push back game releases for games that are already done just to fix the game up to the personal notes of people who tested the finished product. In respects to the fighting game genre, Itagaki is extremely harsh to the Tekken Series by Namco due mostly from the company’s insulting radio commercial on his Dead or Alive Series. That along with him saying Namco is responsible for the stagnation in the fighting game genre, he lists Tekken as one of his top five most hated games though he has said that Tekken, Tekken 2, and Tekken 3 were good games which his family enjoyed.
