I was watching the TV show Supernatural the other night, and their story line is interesting right now becasue they are in an "end Times" scenario. Last night was almost a textbook example of how demons function, I mean, you could have run parts of it in Sundays schools to teach young adults on up about how the devil works. And so they went to a certain point, but then had to jump off into 'Hollywood stuff' to make it palatable for TV. Actually the storyline would be even more compelling if they could simply be Christian without apology. But we're too often our own worst enemy.

In books and TV shows I think we want characters to be perfect Christians without apology. I guess so that we can be good witnesses, or whatever. God forbid anyone give the impression that God still has work to do on and in us. I guess the fear is that if we depict imperfect Christians "it might put others off..." But put them off where? Hell number 2?

Or maybe we could get better at delivering a Christian message via allegory and symbol, let the subconscious figure it. The Otherside is awfully good at this...Check this video by Incubus...It's called Stellar.

First, the name incubus is from the Jewish literature, a "male" demon that sexually preys on females in their sleep. The female version is a sucubus. In this song the an other worldly female says, "Meet me in outer space...we'll watch the earth rise..." The boy doesn't know how she makes him feel the way he feels, the girl tells him he will see what it's like to have her inside. There is a school of thought that believes the earth is 'the first heaven' and that outer space is the 'second heaven' where the demons live. right, wrong..not the debate here...But somebody picked up the symbolism..or it 'just occurred' to the songwriter and they wrote a nice little song about this kid getting possessed and if you didn't know the background, you'd never put it together. It would just nest in the subconcious. If there is a place where we can't go in without apology, maybe we should get better at using symbols...and let the unbelievers subconscious sort it out.

Wise as serpents, harmless as doves. Just some stuff I've been thinking about.

I dunno, what do you think?
