Can too much of the real world make games boring? Or is it just a creative sub-genre of the art of first-person shooting?
The trick to surviving as a soldier in a war is to not be seen. With gamers clamoring for more realistic-feeling shooters, naturally some less exciting aspects of war will emerge too. Recently, Gamasutra published a developer blog post on the mistake of over-complicating modern first-person (and some third-person) shooters. The author made some interesting points about reloading, strafing, and aiming, but I think he missed the point when it came to hiding.
