The articles are flooding spanning from the source of the Times Online, there is now official note that Nintendo is “declaring war” not against their competitors Sony or Microsoft, but towards Apple. Nintendo is preparing to unleash the full force of its development and marketing artillery against Apple after profits tumbled at the Japanese giant for the first time in six years.

This is huge for Nintendo because Apple in general is not really associated with the video gaming or entertainment industry so the shift of power is not per se inevitable but there is a possibility of a shift in power nevertheless.

Now this has really nothing to do with software because Apple is still not a video gaming developer and/or publisher. Every video gaming company has their mascot in which Sega had Sonic, Nintendo has Mario AND Link, Microsoft has Master Chief, and Sony has a huge team of mascots from Crash Bandicoot, Kratos, Solid Snake, and so on and so forth? What does Apple have? An Apple which really doesn’t make for a really stand-out mascot in video gaming. The assault in which made Nintendo declare war was on a peripheral level. With the rise of the iPhone, iTouch, iMac, and now the iPad, there is a possibility that Apple may attempt at making these products more video gaming adaptable and even the possibility that they may try to attempt to make a console. I don’t know what it will be called but for some reason, I think the letter “i” will be in front of it.

Satoru Iwata, one of the biggest names in Nintendo today, has even said that Apple products are “the enemy of the future” as in the potential is possibly there and more so ever with sales dropping this year despite finishing in first still. Also with Sony and Microsoft doing all they can to market to casual gaming community, Nintendo seems to act as if they have a lot on their plate. In all respects, they probably do if they make it a very big deal. True there are many things they have to think about but taking one thing at a time would do just otherwise. Still the best selling video gaming peripheral in history is the Nintendo DS surpassing the original Nintendo but the iPhone is now a competitor with the handheld and that was probably the first red flag to Nintendo especially with the sales of the iPhone skyrocketing and that is much to say in the economy the world is in right now.

...

All in all, it seems that Nintendo is just going against another competitor and recognizing the competitor way before the competitor IS actually a true competitor. More news will come with Nintendo declaring war on Apple but as of now, it is just in the beginning stages of the fight as in Nintendo is preparing it’s military in the form of its campaigning and promotions department. Apple may be too busy to really bother at the moment but anyone in the gaming industry, either they like Nintendo products or not, know that Nintendo has a lot of balls and will do things that no other company would do and have the means to accomplish what they want done.
