Alec the Rabbit and the Carrot

Charles the Rabbit was angry because he had gone through many days without what he needed the most. He stomach growled with hunger. Charles the Rabbit did his best to ignore the feeling but it was getting really annoying now since his stomach growled on the hour every hour. Every piece of food he had before did not satisfy or wasn’t good to him not paying him the nourishment he deserved. After hopping about looking for food, he saw a field in the distance. As he hopped closer, he saw a sign that said “Job Patch” and inside the “Job Patch” were many different carrots. One carrot provided enough sustenance for Charles the Rabbit but it would take many hours till the benefits of the sustenance were felt. Another carrot had sustenance that did not take many hours to benefit Charles the Rabbit but it wouldn’t be enough. However, Charles the Rabbit only saw the negative of each carrot and only wanted something in particular even though those carrots were willing to give Charles the Rabbit what they offered.

Out of the corner of his eye, Charles the Rabbit saw her, a beautiful carrot in the “Job Patch”. Her name was “More Than Twenty Bucks an Hour, Eight Hours a Day, Five Days a Week” but she went by Sexy Carrot instead. Charles the Rabbit wanted Sexy Carrot but Sexy Carrot did not want to be with Charles the Rabbit so she ran. Charles the Rabbit hopped as fast as he could after Sexy Carrot all around the “Job Patch”. Sexy Carrot jumped the fence and went into the woods. Charles the Rabbit followed her hopping as fast as he could ignoring all the help the other carrots offered. Charles the Rabbit kept up with Sexy Carrot following her across the Atlantic Ocean into Europe. He followed her across the Great Wall of China. He followed her down to the Pacific Islands where sexy women were cannibals. He followed her around the world eight times but no matter what Charles the Rabbit did, he could not catch Sexy Carrot.

Five years go by and within those five years Charles the Rabbit did not give up trying to catch Sexy Carrot. He eventually chased Sexy Carrot to the moon where they continued their chase. However on this day, Charles the Rabbit gathered all his strength and all of his willpower and made a dash for Sexy Carrot and he finally caught her! HOORAY!

The moral of the story here is that if you truly believe and if you truly work hard at whatever you truly desire, you will eventually get it. It doesn’t matter how long it takes or how much energy you spend to get what you truly desire as long as you keep up with it, you’ll get it. For me, it was getting published as soon as I can on my first book and eventually I was originally published on March 28, 2008. My first book was published and available for people to purchase. It kept believing and pursuing what I desired and I eventually got what I wanted just like Charles the Rabbit did pursuing Sexy Carrot.

After Charles the Rabbit took the first bite from Sexy Carrot, he swallowed but he forgot to chew. The bite from Sexy Carrot went down his windpipe and he ran around frantically looking for help but nobody could be found since he was on the moon by himself with Sexy Carrot. Eventually, Charles the Rabbit choked to death.

The second moral of the story is that what we truly desire could be the one thing that will kill us. For me, I was in such a rush to publish my first book that I skipped professional editing and didn’t follow all the directions. Because of this brashness I had for publishing my book, I ended up spending more money than I had to if I followed the rules and got my book edited. It is republished now but I wouldn’t have gone through the process if I paid more attention before just like Charles the Rabbit, if he only took what he was offered easily at the beginning, it would be a start and he would be doing better than chasing Sexy Carrot for five years and eventually choking to death. Maybe if he went with the other carrots, Sexy Carrot would want to be with Charles the Rabbit but Charles the Rabbit only had one desire and that desire killed him in the end.
