Artist: Red
Album Name: Innocence & Instinct
Label: Essential Records

Comments: In 2006, out of nowhere, a band named Red stormed onto the scene with their intense heavy rock containing a message aimed at changing lives. Released by Essential Records, Red’s End of Silence became a huge hit on Christian radio. Songs like Breathe into Me and Already Over made Red a breakout band who’s follow-up album would inevitably become a big event. Fast forward to 2-10-2009 and Red releases their sophomore effort called Innocence & Instinct. Let the big event commence.
What I discovered quickly with Innocence & Instinct is that it could ultimately be called a continuation of End of Silence in intensity and hard hitting rock; a familiar sound. The same success will follow as well. Ten songs make up the album, nine of which are original’s and one is a cover of the 1993 hit Ordinary World by Duran Duran. Fan’s of Duran Duran will love Red’s version of this classic song. The album’s overall message is one of intense honesty of the battles we all struggle with inside. Suburb lyrics brought me in deeper and deeper with each passing song. The song Confession states “I confess I’m always afraid, always ashamed of what’s inside my head” ultimately asking for the sin of our inner self be taken away to be able to boast innocence. This is just one example of why Innocence & Instinct will be seen as one of the best albums of 2009. The hits will follow like the first video and radio release called Death of Me. I for one will keep this one in my car’s CD player for months to come.
