Microsoft has now come up with a different direction promoting Project Natal and one of the big things they have done is renaming it to Kinect. At E3 2010, Microsoft spared no expense showing off not just the newest lineup of upcoming games and even a brand new sleeker version of the Xbox 360, but the real showstopper was easily Kinect.

Just like they said they would, Microsoft featured the rebranded peripheral with Cirque du Soleil and showed a lot more than just the fancy motion capture camera. First off, the new peripheral is very stylish but stylish to the extent of the release of the new slim version of the Xbox 360 which also was also showcased at the Microsoft Press Release. Next, were the specifics.

In all specific nature, the peripheral looks like a very long hodgepodge version of a camera and a sensor bar off of the Wii but fancier looking and definitely more stylish looking as well. The hardware was given a release date during the holiday season of November 4, 2010. This means that if you want this peripheral, I suggest a pre-order because in sales pitch, anything sold around Black Friday or even before is a guaranteed high-fire way of getting sales and what better way to sell a video game or a new console or a peripheral than near Christmas time, a time where gifts are given like candy though most don’t really want to. The color so far is just sleek black as in regards to the new slim design of the Xbox 360. So all in all, the design and hardware and such are still on ends as it was shown before as Project Natal but now it is being revisioned and redone for a one-two punch with the new release of the slimmer Xbox 360.

Where this product truly shines is the games. So far at there are twelve games featured for the Kinect but a total of twenty-two games are known to be on this system or to use this system. The games that seem to turn the most heads however I will feature in this article starting with Adrenaline Misfits. This game is pretty much a revisioned version of Tony Hawk’s Downhill Jam which was an epic fail of a video game in the franchise. However, the characters won’t be rendered versions of famous skaters but cartoony animal characters. With the aspect of using your movements to make your character move as well as the mixmash of cartoony presence, this game is ideal to both those of old school games, extreme sports games, and family games. Not much is known about this game by Konami but it is hinted this game will release around the time of Kinect.

Another game is called Your Shape Fitness Evolved which is what it sounds like. This is the latest fit game but now is featured with the new peripheral by Microsoft. What I like about this game is though Wii Fit and EA Fitness and all of the other fitness games on the Wii and some on the PS3 are both fun and good for your health, there is only a limited amount you can do due to the controller issue. With Kinect, there is no controllers thus adding a more wider range of possibilities for the game including more excercises and even more intense cardio. I’ll give you an example using the product Insanity from the Beachbody Corporation. There is no way all the moves from that workout can be implemented in the Wii or Playstation Move as they both stand now but everything from that workout can be implemented into Kinect. This is why I think this peripheral is excellent for health and exercise regimes.

...

Finally, I am going to end the video game part with Dance Masters, this is probably the one game that fully utilizes the hardware because you are of course dancing. This is a step up from the last big game that was centered around dancing being the Dance Dance Revolution Series. And what do you know! This game is also made by the same company of Dance Dance Revolution Series, Konami so kudos to them for making another excellent game that is a step up from their big money maker. Now how it goes is you follow the lead dancers in front of you. There will be a green silouette of what moves and choreography you need to do in order to get points. You’ll spin, you’ll step, you’ll skip, you’ll pretty much dance and that is what I like about this game. This is also the “stepper killer” in the dancing series. If you’ve played the DDR Series like I have, then you’ll know there are point hogs or steppers in the game, these are the people who lean back on the rail at the local arcade and just move their legs as fast as they can to gain as many points as they can and will usually be playing on Oni difficulty. No more steppers in this game thus now you truly have to dance and I like that.
