With the advent of such things as "Darwin day" and the way Darwin plays such a prominent role in people's religion the following Onion article is not so far from the truth. Darwinists further their worship Darwin with the “I love Darwin” stuff (T-shirts, coffee mugs, etc., and even a doggie shirt), other celebrations, the Darwin-Lincoln birthdate coincidence nonsense, “Friend of Darwin” certificates (distributed at a reunion of the Kitzmiller v. Dover plaintiffs team), parents teaching their kids to say "I love you" to Darwin dolls, the Darwin-Wallace medals conferred by the Linnean Society of London, people paying homages to shrines dedicated to Darwin, and on and on.
The point about showing the social and ethical impact of Darwinism is not to *disprove* Darwinism.  However, many people fail to understand that Darwinism necessarily has ethical implications, in ways that other sciences do not, because it makes claims about the origins of morality (at least Darwin in Descent of Man made such claims, as have myriads of Darwinists thereafter).

However, while not disproving Darwinism, pointing out the ethical implications and impacts of Darwinism is nonetheless important.  Some individuals have said that before learning about the intersection of Darwinism and bioethics, they didn’t think Darwinism was all that important—they saw it as irrelevant, a mere intellectual curiosity.  Darwinism, however, makes claims about life and death issues—indeed,  about the very meaning of life and death (in addition to its claims about the origins of morality).  Granted, there are various ways philosophically to try to meet these challenges, but knowing the directions that Darwinism has taken historically can help clarify the philosophical issues, it seems to me.

Further, it is interesting to compare how Darwinists revere Darwin and how some Catholics treat Mary. While the following is satirical fiction unfortunately there are real life example that are not too different. As science has continued its advanced against Darwinism people's religious behavior keeps getting odder and odder.

DAYTON, TN—A steady stream of devoted evolutionists continued to gather in this small Tennessee town today to witness what many believe is an image of Charles Darwin—author of The Origin Of Species and founder of the modern evolutionary movement—made manifest on a concrete wall in downtown Dayton.

"I brought my baby to touch the wall, so that the power of Darwin can purify her genetic makeup of undesirable inherited traits," said Darlene Freiberg, one among a growing crowd assembled here to see the mysterious stain, which appeared last Monday on one side of the Rhea County Courthouse. The building was also the location of the famed "Scopes Monkey Trial" and is widely considered one of Darwinism's holiest sites.
